About Us
After forty years, new life is being established at Lake Sam Rayburn. Rayburn Country is a resort community that includes residential real estate, a newly-renovated golf course complete with clubhouse, a family pool area, and much more! Whether you want to simply come and stay for the weekend or build your dream retirement home, this community offers every amenity you could possibly desire.
Lake Sam Rayburn, the largest man-made lake in the state, is nestled deep in the heart of the Piney Woods of Southeast Texas. The dam was originally constructed for flood control, water conservation, and hydroelectric power generation. The project was called the “McGee Bend Dam and Reservoir,” due to its location upstream from the McGee Bend in the Angelina River. The lake was renamed in September of 1963 after the recently deceased Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Sam Rayburn, who was known for his dedication to soil and water conservation.
Today, native plant and animal life surround the rustic lake and beautiful countryside, setting the perfect backdrop for outdoor recreation, such as camping, boating, swimming, fishing, and hunting. Lake Sam Rayburn is nationally renowned for its largemouth bass fishery, and hosts numerous tournaments each year. The annually stocked lake is home to many fish species, including crappie, catfish, and white bass, and offers year-round opportunity for the avid fisherman. River Otters swim beside the shore banks, while White Pelicans and the American Bald Eagle are seen flying amidst the massive Stately Pines and Bald Cypress trees.
The natural serenity found at Lake Sam Rayburn cannot be adequately described in words. From the breathtaking colors of the sunrise, to the feel of the wind on your face, the Southern hospitality of the lake will beckon you to return again and again. 409-689-1011 to learn more.
Rayburn Country is tucked along the shores of Lake Sam Rayburn in the small town of Brookeland, Texas, located in Jasper County. According to history, the community was originally settled in the late 1870’s as a result of the virgin pine forest and an influx of sawmills. Though lumber is still a major business opportunity, the community is becoming a year-round tourist destination due to the placid natural environment of the nearby lake, piney forests, and beautiful parks. Brookeland has approximately 2,000 residents and is the proud home of the Brookeland Wildcats. The Brookeland ISD is commended for its reading scores in both Elementary and Secondary Education.
Less than 20 miles away, the town of Jasper, population 8,500, offers many amenities of a big city, while still providing the comforting feel of a small town. Business is growing, with the recent addition of Jasper Airport Industrial Park, a state-of-the-art airport park and home of the NorthStar Aero, LLC. Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital and other medical professionals offer peace of mind to residents from all over the community. Jasper ISD, home of the Bulldogs, is a recognized 4A district, will challenge your student to learn and grow and provide ample opportunity to get involved. Around town, tourist attractions in the historic town square include art galleries, antique shopping, and one-of-a-kind southern restaurants.
You will find this thriving community creates a relaxing weekend getaway or a safe haven for growing families of multiple generations. Whether you stay for a week or settle down to retire, the mild winters, low cost of living, and abundant natural beauty will cloak you in blanket of contentment.
